Maritime and Recreational Boating

The Maritime and Recreational Boating Practice at Kotz Sangster has developed over several decades and includes several areas of specialized practice.

Marine Financing

Kotz Sangster has been involved in all aspects of a marine lending transaction.  We represent both lending institutions and consumers in all areas of vessel financing, including the construction, purchase, sale or chartering of vessels. Our attorneys have also assisted financial institutions in enforcement of security interests under federal and state law. Kotz Sangster has developed specialized marine programs for lenders.

General Marine and Recreational Boating

The marine and recreational boating law practice at Kotz Sangster involves representation of marine trade associations, yacht manufacturers, marine dealers, ship repair yards, public and private marinas, yacht clubs and individual yacht owners. In particular, we will review contracts relating to the purchase, storage and operation of vessels. Our clients are also provided significant expertise in corporate, commercial and business law, marine financing, marine insurance and environmental law.  We have specific experience with the Clean Water Act and its regulations as they pertain to boating and marine related activities.

Waterfront Property

Kotz Sangster attorneys have extensive experience in assisting clients in developing property located along the water. The waterfront development practice requires coordinating closely with our environmental practice group. Clients are assisted in the areas of general riparian rights, boundary issues, waterfront zoning, state and federal permit and regulatory processes, including dredging and marina construction, wetland issues, marine and property insurance, submerged land issues, brownfield developments and environmental impacts on waterfront development.
