Tax and Economic Incentives
Kotz Sangster attorneys assist business and entrepreneurial clients in reviewing and implementing the numerous, state, federal and local tax and economic development incentives, which encourage economic development by businesses, provide incentives for sustainable and energy-efficient business projects, and the redevelopment of environmentally impacted sites. Numerous programs have been implemented. Climate Change concerns have also resulted in state and federal legislation and SEC disclosure requirements affecting commercial, industrial and municipal entities alike.
Our attorneys utilize their multi-disciplinary expertise to navigate these opportunities, enabling our clients to maximize their access to and participation in state, federal and local tax incentives, abatements, grants, economic development incentives, and increase access to capital. Members of the tax and economic incentives group include the Chairperson of the State Bar of Michigan Environmental Law Section's Sustainability and Climate Change Committee, who has been active with the Michigan Climate Action Council, Industrial, Commercial and Residential Technical Work Group in drafting new proposed building/construction code documents and recommended legislation involving tax credits/abatements and other incentives for entities achieving energy efficiency and renewable energy goals, including adoption and implementation of LEED building standards state-wide.
