Jeffrey A. Heldt
Jeff Heldt is an attorney practicing in Kotz Sangster Wysocki P.C.'s Birmingham office. He is a graduate of Walsh College (M.S. Taxation), Wayne State University Law School (cum laude) and the Johns Hopkins University.
Mr. Heldt's extensive litigative experience, both in the trial and appellate courts, culminating in Stachura -v- Memphis Public Schools, 477 US 299 (1986), 763 F.2d 211 (6th Cir, 1985) well-prepares him for sophisticated business and financial counsel - knowing the litgative process helps better to anticipate and especially to avoid it. Beginning with his tenure as AVP and Counsel at Bank of the Commonwealth in the mid-1970s, Mr. Heldt has concentrated his practice in representing financial institutions in a broad array of problem-solving contexts ranging from regulatory compliance and trust administration and fiduciary liability issues to negotiated collections, forbearance, loan restructuring/redocumentation, Chapter 11 debtor-creditor machinations cash collateral/adequate protection/relief from automatic stay/competing plans), Article 9 asset liquidations, mortgage foreclosures, and imposition/enforcement of guarantor liability. Receiving an MS in Taxation from Walsh College in 1990 (winner, 1988-89 Stanley W. Smith Taxation award for best senior paper), Mr. Heldt also has extensive experience in all aspects of plan administration and asset management for ERISA/Taft-Hartley Pension, Health Care and other employee benefit plans, ranging from $15 million to $1.2 billion in assets, together with broad experience in employee benefits and executive compensation.
