Heather G. Ptasznik
Heather G. Ptasznik is an attorney practicing in Kotz Sangster Wysocki P.C.’s Detroit office. Ms. Ptasznik is a graduate of the University of Michigan (A.B., with honors, 1993) and Widener University School of Law where she was a member of the law review and moot court honor society. Ms. Ptasznik has extensive experience in the areas of employment law including defending employers against employment discrimination claims, wrongful termination, defamation, unemployment claims, negligence, administrative claims before the EEOC and MDCR and breach of contract claims. Further, Ms. Ptasznik counsels employers on hiring and termination considerations, prepares employment policies and handbooks, conducts training seminars for supervisory and non-supervisory employees, and works with human resources personnel on HR audits.
Ms. Ptasznik regularly conducts seminars with and on behalf of trade organizations and for its clients on various employment law topics. Ms. Ptasznik has written the following articles: Business Matters, July 2002, "Exit Interviews: A Resource for Valuable Information Regarding Your Company's Future"; "The Supreme Court Limits the Scope of Protection Under the Americans with Disabilities Act", Macomb County Bar Association Bar Briefs, May 2002; and has been published quarterly in the State Bar of Michigan’s Labor and Employment Lawnotes (Western District Updates) and in various trade organizations’ newsletters. Ms. Ptasznik also publishes an electronic monthly Employer Bulletin on relevant employment law topics, through Kotz Sangster. The Employer Bulletin is also published on Kotz Sangster’s website.
In the course of providing legal advice and support to clients’ human resources department, Ms. Ptasznik believes that putting sound preventive measures in place can assist in reducing potential liabilities. Ms. Ptasznik works closely with human resources personnel to ensure the firm's clients have effective, clear and comprehensive policies and procedures in place to best protect themselves.
Ms. Ptasznik is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Society of Human Resources Management, served as First Vice President for the Wayne Region (2002-2003) of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) and was Chairperson of the WLAM’s State Gender Bias Committee (2003-2005).
