James Y. Stewart
Mr. Stewart is an attorney practicing in Kotz Sangster Wysocki P.C.’s Detroit and Bloomfield Hills offices. He is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School and the University of Michigan (B.B.A.). His practice areas include general corporate and business law; formation of corporations and joint ventures; mergers and acquisitions; contracts; shareholder agreements; commercial law; and real estate.
Mr. Stewart is the Practice Group Leader of Kotz Sangster’s Maritime and Recreational Boating Practice Group. He has more than twenty-five years of experience in recreational boating and maritime law. Mr. Stewart is specifically experienced in yacht financing, vessel documentation and the foreclosure of maritime liens. He has vast experience in the perfection and collection of maritime liens including preferred ships mortgages. Mr. Stewart is a frequent speaker on issues relating to recreational boating and maritime lending. He serves as general counsel to the Michigan Boating Industries Association and the National Marine Bankers Association.
As a member of the firm's Real Estate Practice Group, Mr. Stewart also has extensive experience in representing landlords and tenants in the negotiation of commercial leases, handling the purchase and/or sale of commercial and residential real estate, and assisting clients with environmental issues. Specifically in the environmental arena, he has assisted many clients with obtaining construction permits and bottomland leases from the State of Michigan.
As a member of Kotz Sangster's Corporate and Business Planning Services and Merger and Acquisition Practice Groups, Mr. Stewart consults with clients on business management, corporate governance, joint ventures, asset and stock purchases and sales.
