Twenty-two years a lawyer, Mr. Dunn concentrates his practice as follows:
Trusts and Estates - Estate planning; post-death administration, including probate proceedings; preparation of Federal estate tax returns; and preparation of income tax returns for trusts and estates. Much of Mr. Dunn's practice involves litigation, especially contested proceedings concerning wills, trusts and estates.
Mr. Dunn is an expert on taxation of trusts and estates. He frequently speaks and writes on the subject. He teaches a graduate course on the subject at the University of Michigan - Dearborn School of Management.
Tax Litigation - Mr. Dunn is also an expert in tax litigation. His civil tax practice includes administrative proceedings before the Internal Revenue Service and its Taxpayers Advocate's Office and its Appeals Office; and civil litigation in U.S. Tax Court, U.S. District Court, U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and Federal appellate courts. His criminal tax practice includes preindictment investigation; voluntary disclosure to avert prosecution; grand jury practice; pretrial motions; trial; and, if necessary, appeal.
Mergers and Acquisitions - Mr. Dunn provides counsel on tax issues in corporate transactions including entity selection and capitalization, mergers and acquisitions; and divisive reorganizations. He drafts and reviews documents for such transactions, including tax indemnities; performs due diligence in such transactions; and represents parties in tax controversies concerning such transactions.
Other - The balance of Mr. Dunn's practice includes negotiating and drafting prenuptial agreements; identification and division of assets in divorce; dealing with tax issues in bankruptcy; and serving as consulting counsel or as an expert witness.
Mr. Dunn is a member of the State Bar of Michigan's Publications and Website Advisory Committee, which publishes the Michigan Bar Journal.
Mr. Dunn is active in the community. He serves on the Planned Giving Advisory Counsel of the American Red Cross, Southeastern Michigan Chapter.
Before law school, Mr. Dunn was an auditor with Ernst & Young for three years, earning the Michigan CPA designation.
