Ms. Ptasznik is an associate at Kotz Sangster and concentrates her practice in representing management in the area of labor and employment law. Ms. Ptasznik advises clients on all types of employment matters including hiring, terminations, reductions in force, leaves of absence, the FMLA, workplace investigations, disability accommodation and wage and hour administration. Ms. Ptaszink also counsels on human resources issues including employee handbooks, supervisory training, employment policies and agreements.
Ms. Ptasznik defends employers before administrative agencies including the Unemployment Compensation Board, the EEOC and Michigan Department of Civil Rights and in federal and state court proceedings involving matters of negligent hiring and supervision, discrimination and harassment, enforcement of non-compete agreements and breach of contract claims. Additionally, Ms. Ptasznik's practice includes general commercial litigation.
Ms. Ptasznik is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, served as First Vice President for the Wayne Region (2002-2003) of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) and was Chairperson of the WLAM’s State Gender Bias Committee (2003-2005).
Prior to joining Kotz Sangster, Ms. Ptasznik practiced for five years in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ms. Ptasznik's first three years of practice focused on the representation of employees while practicing at an employment law boutique firm. Thereafter, Ms. Ptasznik's focus changed to representing primarily employers including physician practices, automobile dealerships, national food chains and a national vision center. Although Ms. Ptasznik's entire career has been dedicated to the area of labor and employment law, she has assisted in complex commercial litigation matters including a case that garnered a $350 million jury verdict for her firm's client—the largest jury verdict in Philadelphia's history.
Ms. Ptasznik has also written the following articles: Business Matters, July 2002, "Exit Interviews: A Resource for Valuable Information Regarding Your Company's Future"; "The Supreme Court Limits the Scope of Protection Under the Americans with Disabilities Act", Macomb County Bar Association Bar Briefs, May 2002; and has been published quarterly in the State Bar of Michigan’s Labor and Employment Lawnotes (Western District Updates).
